MAKE A PREDICTION

"We are living in a continually changing world, and fortunately airah has remained as active, relevant and dynamic as the day of our founding on march 10, 1920... part of the challenge of the future is to adapt to the changing times, and to provide lasting values."
– Ian Loney, AIRAH president 1996–97, AIRAH Journal, July 1997

Over 20 years ago, as part of the 50th anniversary of AIRAH's journal, AIRAH President Ian Loney predicted a future concerned with:

The CFC phase-out

"[This] has been the catalyst for the greatest changes in refrigeration technology since the days of Harrison and other industry pioneers. The need to develop alternative non-CFC-based refrigerants has been a watershed for our industry."
Picture

Accreditation for HVAC&R practitioners

"The HVAC&R industry needs to be proactive in establishing a structure and criteria for a compulsory national register of certified refrigeration technicians. Such a register would encourage competent practitioners to seek accreditation."
Picture

Indoor air quality

"One of the challenges to come is providing indoor environments as close as possible to a pristine outdoor environment, for comfort and more productive staff, and to reduce absenteeism."
Picture

Best practice

"Designers and installers have a 'duty of care' to our industry to promote the best possible practices... We have a duty to encourage and promote the best possible solutions."
