What brought you to the HVAC&R industry?
I used to work in the electric motor industry in South Korea and the United States. After moving to Perth, I found the field wasn’t large enough. I decided to join a bigger, more popularised industry – one that required crowd-driven products and services, keeping the industry a decent size. HVAC&R was exactly what I was looking for.
How long have you been a member of AIRAH?
I’m part of Daikin’s employer partner program with AIRAH. I believe it is eight years.
What’s your favourite HVAC&R-related memory?
Well, I now have to say this moment. If I recall my favourite memory after my future retirement, I will proudly say that I am counted as one of 100 Faces for AIRAH’s Centenary in 2020. Thanks for providing me with one of the best memories.
What’s something everyone should know about you, your work, or the HVAC&R industry?
I am trying to improve other sides of me. For instance, I have a bachelor’s degree in social welfare, a postgraduate in business administration, and I am currently working in the science field.
During school, engineering never captured my interest. But as soon as I was working with engineers, I was just fascinated. There is a lot to learn from engineers while processing the work with them – especially how they approach the problem to solve.
What I have found is that the answer is not always there, but continuous seeking and curiosity brings the best for now, and encourages better for the future.
How do you see the HVAC&R industry developing over the next 100 years?
In my opinion, the main technology of hardware won’t be much different unless mankind meets another inventor like Willis Carrier.
I trust we will see good development of refrigerants that are more efficient and environmentally friendly. Of course, the adoption of these refrigerants will depend on who is leading the country, just like today.
The software side is changing. It’s easy to see the control function with the internet of things becoming more common in the near future.
