Hampton took some time to answer questions about her experience in the HVAC&R industry and her AIRAH membership. Find the Q&A below.
What brought you to the HVAC&R industry?
My mum, literally. She would take me to work with her during school holidays, where I earnt pocket money checking drawings for diffuser and light fitting clashes.
How long have you been a member of AIRAH?
10 years this year!
What's your favourite HVAC&R-related memory?
My time as AIRAH President gave me a wonderful opportunity to see and understand the industry outside my little box and meet many of the terrific people in it. I especially enjoyed opening the AIRAH awards in 2016 and was struck by the passion and pride we have in what we do. That, and finding Ned Kelly’s “fridge” in a Glenrowan museum: a box with wet hessian sacks for walls. 😊
What's something everyone should know about you, your work, or the HVAC&R industry?
People have no idea just how much they rely on HVAC&R. Without it, life as we know it simply wouldn't exist. We're far too humble; we deserve parades and definitely a statue.
How do you see the HVAC&R industry developing over the next 100 years?
Who knows? Given how far we've come in the last 100 years, I can't begin to imagine where the next 100 will take us. Anything is possible.
