Ammonia Compressor Logbook

Picture

In the archive sits a well-worn copy of AIRAH’s Ammonia Compressor Logbook.

It records the ammonia compressors at the Western Australia Meat Export Works from 1922–1946.

The WA Meat Export Works was formed in 1919. It was taken over by the government in 1942.

The company slaughtered stock for export, manufactured stock goods, fertilisers, tallow, ice, fellmongery, and wool scouring, and provided frozen and cold storage for perishable products.

In September 1957, AIRAH’s WA division held a visit to its Robbs Jetty site. The event was hosted by past WA president Royden Brearley.

Brearley started as an apprentice at the WA Meat Export Works on January 8, 1923. He would retire in 1968 as chief engineer.
